October 13 2015 Members

It is with great pleasure that we introduce Nelson Samson as our athlete of the month.  Nelson is a dedicated, disciplined crossfitter always looking to improve and be the best he can be. Although Nelson is attending Dalhousie University and working at Lululemon, he always makes time to fit in a workout…or two. Nelson is supportive and helpful to others around him. You will always find him at the end of his workout encouraging others to keep going and keep pushing harder. Nelson is a natural leader and leads by example in all aspects of his life. Nelson is concerned with the health and longevity of others; continuously bringing friends to sweat along side him.  If you see Nelson make sure to say hello and do not be afraid to ask him for pointers, he is always a friendly face and more than willing to share his tips and tricks.
nelson11. Age/occupation

25, kinesiology student at DAL and I’ve worked at Lululemon Athletica for the past 5 years.

2. How and when did you discover CF?

I started crossfit after being a spectator at the 2014 crossfit open. Watching Sacha compete ignited a fire and I knew I wanted to be part of this! I started crossfit in May 2014, and haven’t looked back since!

3. Fitness history prior to CF?

I played volleyball during high school and for Volleyball Nova Scotia. I’ve always been a runner, and ran a few half marathons.

4. Has CF changed your view of fitness? How has CF impacted your lifestyle?

Crossfit has become a passion very quickly in my life. Prior to crossfit, I had never lifted a weight in my life. Becoming strong is such an exciting process! I love being able to challenge myself everyday I step foot into the gym. I’ve been able to share this passion with friends in my life. There is nothing better than sweating (and struggling) with friends by my side.

5. What do you enjoy most about CF?

Beyond the exercising and the sweating, crossfit, specifically ironstone, is all about the community vibes to me. I have made countless friends that push me to be the best form of me everyday. I leave the gym inspired and motivated to be better, and this is all due to the athletes exercising around me. Watching people conquer fears, set new PRs, and push harder than they thought they could is what I enjoy most.

6. If you could program a wod what would it look like?

My ideal WOD would be a partner WOD involving pull-ups, burpees, hand-stand walks and running. I have always loved going through a  nice long bodyweight WOD with a partner to push each other!

7. Least favourite wod or movement

Heavy deadlifts…it is a relationship I’m working on.

8. What would be your favourite healthy go to meal?/ favourite not so healthy indulgence ?

I’m all about breakfast; egg with peanut butter, bacon and avocado. My favourite cheat meal (which happens far too often) would have to be pizza and beer.

9. Fitness goals for 2015?

I will begin getting out of my exercise comfort zone. I want to start climbing and swimming during the colder months.

10. What advice would you give to someone wanting to try CF but is too nervous?

Leave your ego at the door, introduce yourself, and push a little harder than you think you can – you will probably surprise yourself.

11. Leave us with a interesting fact about you

I am very good at catching grapes in my mouth, like very good.
